Behaviour profiling for high-performing teams
GYST’s unique system is for leaders who want to maintain high performance under pressure.
How do your leaders behave when the pressure is on?
Tight deadlines and high stakes are the norm for senior teams. But when pressure becomes too much, it can affect even the most experienced director’s behaviour.
On the plus side, pressure can make us more focused and determined. It can also trigger less favourable behavioural responses, like control, avoidance and impatience. That’s when communication breaks down, performance dips and results start to suffer.
Our pressure responses are hard-wired and instinctive, so changing them starts with self-awareness.
GYST’s behavioural profiling helps high-performance teams understand how they communicate, think and make decisions. It reveals what happens when pressure tips into stress, and how both positive and negative behaviours can intensify.
This isn’t just a personality test. It gives your team practical insight and language to identify pressure responses in themselves and others, and adapt before they hinder performance.
From The Meltdown to lasting behavioural change
GYST’s behaviour profiling is a natural continuation of The Meltdown workshop.
The Meltdown is an immersive, escape-room-style workshop that puts your team into a high-stakes environment to see the effects of pressure. It shows you firsthand what happens to communication, decision-making and team dynamics when pressure takes over.
If you haven’t completed it yet, don’t worry, it’s not a prerequisite. But we do strongly recommend it as an excellent basis for behavioural profiling, as it’s practical, tangible and makes it easier to take the ideas back into the workplace.
Understanding pressure response, not just personality
Traditional behavioural profiling reveals a lot about individual strengths, weaknesses, preferences and communication style. At GYST, we use DISC as a basis to analyse how someone tends to approach decisions, conflict and relationships. Then we take it further to see how pressure intensifies behaviours and the effects it has on performance.
And that effect is real. Nearly 70% of senior leaders state that burnout affects their ability to make decisions. And the government estimates that presenteeism costs employers £21 billion a year. This proves just how quickly unmanaged pressure can become a business issue, not just a personal one.
Our profiling tool is the basis for better pressure responses across your teams. It helps you explore what happens under pressure, both on an individual level and the team as a whole.
Which behaviours dominate the room – and which voices disappear?
Where does healthy challenge turn into friction?
How effectively are decisions made when time is limited?
What does each person need to perform effectively?
We’re not spouting peace and harmony at all costs; that’s just unrealistic. The goal is a more confident, adaptable team that understands each other’s pressure behaviours and can challenge and adjust before they become an issue.
The ultimate question is, “What can we do differently before an unhelpful pattern takes over?”
How GYST behaviour profiling works
Most leaders will have encountered a personality test at some point. Our behavioural profiling works in a similar way. Each person responds to a structured set of questions, stating what is most and least like them.
We score the responses against the DISC dimensions, then translate them into GYST’s five pressure responses.
GYST's five pressure responses - which is yours?

Drivers are focused, decisive, and results-oriented. Under pressure, they may push themselves and others harder, be too direct and become overly controlling.

Your Shifter is energetic, persuasive and adaptable. They tend to change direction too much when pressure hits, and find it hard to bring things to a conclusion.

A Harmoniser is supportive, measured and highly aware of others. When things are pressurised, they may prioritise keeping the peace above all else, even when challenge is necessary.

Analysers are thoughtful, structured and like to get things just right. But they can become too absorbed in details under pressure and create a bottleneck for decisions.

As the name suggests, Sprinters are fast-working and energised by momentum. When pressure hits, they might just keep accelerating and push ahead while the team struggles to keep up.
How we help leadership teams understand and adapt to pressure responses
None of the five behavioural styles is inherently good or bad. What matters is how the different personality types interact and how team members support one another when pressure arises.
Through greater self-awareness, your people can spot where negative behaviours are threatening the team dynamic and progress. It makes difficult behaviour easier to name and helps colleagues challenge each other without veering into personal criticism.
The pressure profile report is just the start
Your team’s pressure profiles give a clear view of what’s happening, but the report itself won’t create change overnight. The real value comes from what you and your team do with that insight.
We’re all slaves to instinct and biology: for new behaviours to truly stick, they must be continually discussed, practised and repeated. GYST’s ongoing quarterly executive team coaching keeps the conversation alive and helps embed healthy habits.
Frequently asked questions:
GYST's behavioural profiling services
Is GYST behaviour profiling the same as DISC?
We use DISC as the underlying framework because it's a well-established way to understand decision-making and communication styles. We take it one step further by analysing how people's natural tendencies and preferences can intensify under pressure and translate them into five distinct pressure profiles.
Is this personality profiling or psychometric testing?
No, and nope. GYST focuses on behavioural profiling rather than fixed personality labels. While the five pressure types are clearly personality-driven, we frame it in terms of behaviour and how that changes and intensifies under pressure. It's not a definitive judgment of someone's personality traits or capability.
Can you profile an entire executive team?
Our five behavioural profiles are developed for each team member, giving them the basis for a personal development plan that can be explored through 1:1 executive coaching. Crucially, we also look at how the different profiles interact across the team. It reveals the unique team dynamic, highlighting strengths, blind spots, and the biggest threats to performance.
Can behavioural profiling improve team performance?
That's our goal, but behavioural profiling alone is not a magic fix. The value comes from how teams use the insight to better understand each other's preferences and pressure responses. If teams apply the insights well and consistently, they remove barriers to performance such as poor communication, ineffective decision-making, and conflict. It also helps leaders prevent burnout in individuals, teams and the wider organisation.
